Love of Weary / Tired Swans
Love of Tired Swans
This is one of my favorite performances of Love of Tired Swans, at the New Wave International Contest for Young Performers held in Sochi. It is fitting that Dimash perform Love of Tired Swans this year with Mr Igor Krutoy, as Mr Krutoy co-founded this international contest in 2002 with Latvian pianist and composer Raimonds Pauls. In this performance, Dimash does one of his famous acts that his audience simply adore — impromptu singing with his dears at the end. Charming!
In Love of Tired Swans, we see Dimash singing not only with his usual flawless technique, but also with a heart-rending delivery of the lyrics. We see almost no interaction with his audience as he seems lost to this world. Indeed, for the duration of the song, Dimash lives within the boundaries of another world, the world of the tired swans.
But the magic here is that Dimash is a born story teller, and his medium is music. With Tired Swans, he weaves a spell around his listeners that pulls us into his world from the first note to the last. And he doesn’t utilize just the music and lyrics; he does it with everything he’s got — from his facial expression, his eyes, his hands, to his stance, to dropping to his knees. After a while, you realize something :
Dimash doesn’t just sing a song.
He IS the song.
As usual, we hear his beautiful, unique voice gently taking us from his baritone to soprano, and see his hands speaking their own language in harmony to the song. Dimash sings Love of Tired Swans with a new timbre to his lower voice – something stronger, darker and infinitely more masculine. We’re so used to hearing his high notes that his remarkably low registers in this song take us by surprise.
But just as we settle down and enjoy this new Dimash baritone, he shifts gears. With a superb smoothness he lifts himself into soprano with no effort at all, and seemingly without taking breath.
And what about that crescendo? We all expect that now, don’t we? I smile when I listen to a favorite reactor who kindly warns us with, ‘here it comes.’ But don’t we all still hold our collective breath as Dimash unleashes his whole arsenal upon us, his hapless listeners. His powerful voice rises in volume and intensity until finally, he crashes into the climax of the song, as he pleads with his swan partner to neva eva leave him, or he’ll be in pain hell foreva.
We know Dimash, we know now how flawlessly he delivers his song. We should be prepared to be bamboozled yet again by his majestic voice, and even to expect it, and even to not consider it as something special. But with the way Dimash sings Love of Tired Swans, we are played to new heights of his perfection, as if perfection should have stages, and more stages. And for now, we say, with Love of Tired Swans, we have another favorite masterpiece, Dimash. For now. Until the next one. How cool is that?
It was in Russia when Dimash first sang Love of Tired Swans at a live performance at the Kremlin, Moscow, Russia.
…we are played to new heights of his perfection,
as if perfection should have stages,
and more stages

LONDON: DQ Concert
November 2019
To my observation, perhaps the most anticipated song of Dimash’s concert “DQ” at the O2 at the Indigo, London (November 19, 2018) was ‘Love of Tired Swans.’ The ‘Dimash version’ of the song was recently re-launched in Russia a few weeks before, and there were even speculations about whether Lara Fabian, it’s original singer, would do a duet with Dimash in London.
‘Love of Tired Swans’ the song, is divinely crafted, the lyrics magically spinning its emotional message, an appropriate one during these times – the challenge of keeping a spouse or partner for life, like what swans do. As we know, swans are known to keep one mate (with a few exceptions.) But if we were to follow swans’ tendency to stay with one partner until we die, how do we go on when our love goes ‘tired?’ The songwriter Mikhail Guceriev is brilliant. What do you say to your partner? What, indeed. Well, listen to Dimash as he pleads with his beloved swan to find a way to ‘re-warm their love.’ It might give you a few clues.
I must also mention that the music by composer Mr Igor Krutoi is one of the most beautiful melodies I have ever heard. I first heard it sung by Lara Fabian a long time ago, and there was another male singer who sang it, although I don’t know his name. But Dimash’s version is arguably the best. IMHO, he best represented the emotions of the song, and gave justice to the beautiful message by the poet Mikhail. But I am not here to get into an argument, although I did use that word, sorry. My point is that from the moment Tired Swans was heard Dimash-style at the Kremlin in Moscow, fans have been tenderly humming or singing it several times a day since. I know because I have! So, at the O2 at the Indigo, when Dimash sang the first notes of Tired Swans, the approximately 2,000-strong audience recognised its now familiar beginnings, and a delighted applause arose from the crowd. I’m sure Dears and Fans world-wide joined in that collective cheer. Here is a fan video taken of the performance. Cr. The Pearl of Dimash

English Literal Translation of Love of Tired / Weary Swans
Look into my eyes
Please forgive me, I regret
I love you, you’re my life
Without your warmth, I am obsessed about you
We could not hold it
We are tired, it’s difficult for us
I’m all alone, please understand me
Nothing is matter without love
Swans can’t live apart
Wait, don’t rush
Do not say that feelings are gone
And there is no way back
Swans can’t live apart
Wait, don’t rush
In separation the pain is harsher
Please warm my love
The love of tired swan
And my days, without soul
I miss you, it’s all complicated
But we are still close, please say something
Call me, without your love it hurts
I ask you, please give in
My feelings are not my prose
Sometimes come to my dreams
Take me in, do not look for another
Swans can’t live apart
Wait, don’t rush
Do not say that feelings are gone
And there is no way back
Swans can’t live apart
Wait, don’t rush
In separation the pain is harsher
Please warm my love
The love of tired swan
