Dimash holds fans spellbound with Japanese Ikanaide

On November 28, 2021, Dimash Kudaibergen performed at the Tokyo Jazz 20th. Other artists who performed were Makoto Ozone, Herbie Hancock, Miho Hazama, Banksia Trio, Ayaka Hirahara, Bigyuki, Chihiro Yamanaka and more.

Dimash sang “Ikanaide” originally made popular by Kōji Tamaki, a Japanese singer-songwriter and actor, and lyrics written by Japanese poet Goro Matsui. Dimash sang the song  in Japanese, making the performance exceedingly meaningful and enthralling for both Japanese and international fans. He has sang this song several times in Chinese, and his much-awaited rendition of the Japanese version captivated his fans the world over.

“Ikanaide” means “Don’t Go.” The lyrics tell the story of the singer begging his lover to stay, a universal message that resonates with all people. Fans of Dimash are mesmerized with every song he sings, but this song is exceptional because Dimash had introduced this song to the world in its Chinese adaptation, stunning the audience during his international debut in “The Singer 2017.”

Japanese Vocal Coach Reacts Live to
Dimash’s rendition of Ikanaide
(Do not miss this)

“This voice is too amazing ..  This is a transcendental skill … He uses technique…to show the sadness of the lyrics.”

Comment by a Dear: Keiko Kay Hayashi, posted with permission. Thank you Dear Keiko!

Vocal coach Success Voice “Sho” came back with a live vocal analysis of Ikanaide from Tokyo Jazz! Just like the Dears were anxiously waiting on Nov 28th, Sho was also well-prepared and counting down for the release.

The analysis was not just about Dimash’s vocal techniques, but also includes insights on why Dimash selected the particular technique at various places, and even how he uses his recording equipment. The analysis was enjoyable, informative, and full of Dearish respect for Dimash.

The video has subtitles in English and other languages, but it is machine generated, so the timing is off at times, and sometimes the translation is difficult to understand (especially when he gets over excited). Just so that you know, he danced a few time with his arms in the air saying “Yabai”, expressing his feeling of being overwhelmed with awesomeness.🤣  Sho is trying to get help with subtitles, so hopefully the subtitles will get better in future videos.

Sho’s analysis <Spoiler Alert/Lengthy Post>

Sho immediately gave up on doing a real time analysis, because he was so impressed and had to stop at the first breath by Dimash 😆 Dimash’s control of breath was amazingly precise. I was nodding in agreement when Sho said that when Dimash sang in Japanese, the words hit us straight into our hearts.
His explanation about how Dimash adds vibrato on his voice, even when it’s essentially a breath, was revealing to me. He also analyzed how Dimash opens up his vocal chords, where exactly Dimash made each tone resonate (nasal, pharyngeal, or in oral cavity) or mix them according to the sound he needs to express the emotion each tone carries.

The fact that Dimash doesn’t use a windscreen shows how perfectly he can control his breath, even more so, because the microphone used is super sensitive and best in class. His high tone C#6 such as F#5 or modulation were not used to show off his vocal skills, but to convey emotion. Especially the last phrase of “Ikanaide kono mama de” strikes you with pain.

Sho offers analysis with professional knowledge as well as respect and love for Dimash as a Dear, so it was both insightful and enjoyable to me. I hope there will be more good quality reactors like this one to spread the word about Dimash, and especially find more Dears in Japan!

Mr Goro Matsui is moved by Dimash

Dimash’s rendition of the tender love song has caused a storm of delighted reviews and impressions not only from his fans but also from the lyricist himself. Mr Goro Matsui, the song’s lyricist, wrote on his Twitter:

“A foreign singer sang “Ikanaide” in our native language! I have heard many foreign singers sing it, but he is the first who sang this song so beautifully. What an honor 🌹❤️😭😭😭
I’m so moved❤️❤️”

Dimash sends a greeting to Ikanaide composer Mr Koji Tamaki

In this video, Dimash talks about his respect for Mr Koji Tamaki and sends him a message wishing him well. Mr Tamaki then sent a delighted reply.

Cr. Dimash Iran

Dimash:
Nice to meet you Mr. Tamaki. “I have great respect for Mr. Tamaki as a singer. As I listen to “Ikanaide”, I can feel the depth of the Japanese heart and the richness and great culture.
Mr. Tamaki’s work has never faded and are very special influence for the singers of younger generation today. I hope that he will continue to exert his power to reach even higher heights Please stay healthy forever.
Please continue to impress the world with your wonderful singing voice.

Mr Tamaki:
“I am very happy to receive a greeting from Dimash. There are different renditions of “Ikanaide”. And every singer who has ever performed this composition has managed to convey its depth regardless of age. I’ve heard that over time, the same things can be transmitted in completely different ways. And it’s very nice, isn’t it?”“
